Colonization!!!
Oh, Colonization, you grand weaver of fates,
Your tendrils reached across the seas,
Boundaries erased, nations unmade,
In your quest for gold, spice, and clove trees.
You sailed on the winds of ambition,
With banners unfurled in the sun,
Promising glory and visions,
Of empires built and battles won.
From Iberian shores you ventured forth,
Brave ships carving paths in the blue,
Seeking wealth in the vast New World,
Claiming lands, peoples, and cultures anew.
Oh, Colonization, both creator and destroyer,
You brought roads and bridges, trade and towns,
But beneath your veneer of progress,
Lay the sorrow of stolen crowns.
Great cities rose where jungles once thrived,
And railways stitched lands far and wide,
Yet, in your wake, ancient traditions,
Were often cast aside.
Through you, knowledge crossed continents,
Astronomy, navigation, and more,
But in your shadow walked oppression,
Chains clinking on every shore.
You whispered of destiny and providence,
In tongues of conquest and divide,
Drawing lines on maps with abandon,
Heeding not the human ties.
Empires gleamed in the sun's bright glare,
From London's fog to Paris's light,
Yet, beneath the sheen of civilization,
Festered the wounds of might.
The fields you tilled with forced hands,
The mines you gouged with toil and pain,
The souls you bent to foreign commands,
Echo still with cries that remain.
Oh, Colonization, your legacy complex,
A tapestry of light and dark threads,
Histories woven with progress and regret,
Memories of glory and dread.
In markets, your spices still linger,
In languages, your influence found,
In hearts, a mixture of anger and wonder,
For the paths you unwound.
Now, as we look to the future's gaze,
May we reckon with your shadowed past,
Heal the scars, lift the haze,
For a world united, whole, at last.
Oh, Colonization, teacher harsh,
May your lessons guide us true,
To honor diversity and cherish each arch,
Of history, as we anew pursue.
